Default Is Windows 7 good?

Hey
I was wondering if Windows 7 is good for gaming and other stuff that has to do with gaming. I heard there were some errors with running L4D2 Demo on it, though I'm not sure. Please tell me as soon as possible what you think or know is best, either Vistas or Windows 7, I don't want to talk about XP. I need this info because I need a new hard drive and I think an operating System must be chosen for the hard drive to be installed or something like that.

Thanks for any responses about that.

As far as I know Windows 7 supports DirextX11, which is better then DirectX9 off course.
I don't have any experience on Windows 7 itself.I'm planning to change from XP to 7 when it's summer break, since I don't want to take the risk to lose any school files. To me Windows 7 is like XP with a greater design. It has some improvements such as faster alt-tabbing without having your games get stuck.

Microsoft has posted some comparisons on its site:

here are there top 10 reasons:

I've used XP, Vista and 7 fairly extensively for gaming, work, photo editing among other things. Whilst I didn't have any personal gripes with Vista (the "vista sucks" argument was fairly moot as they fixed most of the problems a few months after release), 7 is an improvement on it. I'm not one to comment on stability or what-not as I'd only notice if it was bad rather than if it's any better than vista. It looks nicer, once you get used to it, it makes it much faster to do stuff you regularly do (the features on the task bar that look gimmicky in the adverts - aren't) and it boots up a lot faster than my XP or Vista installations. If you intend on buying a new computer or operating system, there is literally no reason not to go for it. Also make sure to install 64-bit over 32. Even if you don't have 4GB of RAM, it's worth it. I highly recommend 7 no matter what version of windows you have.

Ok thanks, I'll probably get Windows 7 soon after it's released in Cambodia, I live now in Cambodia lol. Ok but about the RAM and 32 and 64 bit editions, would I or should I be able to get it on my laptop? I'm gonna upgrade the RAM very soon to 2GB(or is there an even higher one?) but I also heard that Intel 7 is recommended for Windows 7 and I'm not sure if I could change my laptop's CPU, I think it's a HP Pavillion dv9700. My current CPU now is Intel Core Duo 2GHz.
Thanks for all the Info and any further responses

Oh and I forgot, is there already a DirectX11? I thought the new one that was being used for games was the DirectX10.

DX10 came out with Vista. And as soon as 7 came out DX11 came out with it. So if you love like playing on full on a game to see how good it looks I also say 7 but I haven't tried it myself.

Only difference I've seen yet is the taskbar.
Will probably find more new stuff the more i use it.
If i don't, changing was a big mistake!
