The optimum requirements are pretty steep. I wonder if it can legitimately use that much power or if it's just inefficient coding.

On a 32-bit OS, only ~3.5 GB, due to the limits of the 32-bit processing architecture. On a 64-bit OS, you can have as much RAM as the motherboard supports. The highest any motherboard supports at present is 24GB, so, that's the most anyone could possibly have, right now. And in case you're wondering, the theoretical RAM limit on a 64-bit OS is 16,000,000 GB (yes, 16 million gigabytes), but that is, of course, just theoretical. I don't think you'll practically see anyone with millions of gigs or RAM anytime soon.

Hi guys, new to the forum. I have a laptop that was gifted to me and I am planning on purchasing Metro 2033 soonish, and am wondering how people think it might run settings wise with my specs (I would check systems requirement lab, but didn't see it there yet). Also keep in mind that I would be hooking it up to my HDTV via HDMI to hopefully run it at 1080p (hopefully at least) Thank you in advance.

Gateway P-6831FX:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
Intel Core 2 Duo X7800 Extreme 2.6 ghz, at the moment (its overclockable, so may get a friend help me overclock it to some degree)
4 GB Ram 667 MHz DDR2
Nvidia Geforce 8800M GTS 512 MB (DX10 Card)
Seagate 320 GB 7200rpm 16mb cache HDD

Hey there, nice laptop you have

Metro 2033 is very very demanding, with that laptop it will run on probably the lowest settings to get great frames. Keep in mind that even on very low the game looks amazing, check my video preview of about 1 hour of gameplay footage at the lowest settings to get a feel of what to expect.

Hi, thank you Great vids btw. I hope this isn't a dumb question but is that low video settings on dx10 ? Also I am ok with running in the 30 fps range, I am not really looking for super fast frames. With that in mind, with the specs I listed do you think I could run it in say medium perhaps ? Sorry if these are dumb questions I am just not sure what to expect, but that does indeed look great even on low

you might be able to run it on medium with it set to the lowest resolution possible, but i would not count on it.

This is easily the most demanding game out right now, its pretty much the new Crysis when it comes to benchmarking.
