Steam & Mac..Finally?

Source: http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/...steam-for-mac/

"Valve just couldn't wait until GDC 2010 to make "Portal 2" official, and now their other expected announcement for the conference has been confirmed as well. The company wants to port Steam and many of its games over to Mac.

Valve's marketing VP Doug Lombardi told MacNewsNetwork that his company's expansion outside of the the PC market and onto Windows' biggest commercial competitor is underway.

Teaser images spoofing past Apple ad campaigns have been hinting at this revelation for the last week and Mac elements identified in the code for the latest version of Steam all but verified the move. Nevertheless, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell should have a lot of pressure taken off his shoulders now when he gets up to accept his GDC Pioneer Award next week.

Details about how games may or may not be restricted to and distributed outside of the Steam network will likely have to wait until GDC, but Mac enthusiasts should have a good time listening to them when they do, as this is one of the biggest gaming developments to hit their computers in years."

I also heard that if you buy a source game such as Portal 2, Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2...you will be able to download either version if you please.

Great stuff by Valve.

This sure is a great thing for the Mac gamers.
It's a great move. Also, the games aren't just running through compatibility programs but with the actual code.
And yeah, when you've got the windows version you automatically have the mac version.
I don't think there is an exact release date for it though.

Its going to be awesome to get to play with the Mac players as well. A larger user base will allows the Steam games to have more players playing with each other.

Most of the mac users were already using bootcamp to be able to play the steam games. So I doubt it'll make such a big difference.

ive always wanted a mac, but i wanted a gaming machine too.

i might just get a mac now, although

can you upgrade the video card just like pc ones? or do you have to buy MAC specific cards?

has to be mac specific, you can always buy a PC card but then you will have to flash the ROM. Which is not easy.
