I'm getting the new 360...
ive kinda had enough of my computer. Im finding it too hard to keep up with the new games on PC. If my computer can't handle it, it seems like a big waste of money to me. Why spend around 1000$ on a computer to run a game, when the ports to PC arent even optimized for it (example borderlands)
Most games are ported from console, so why not get what they are made for?
i was thinking about getting a 360 for a while, and the new 250GB WiFi Kinect one kinda sealed the deal for me....
oh well, ill be playing all my VALVe games on PC. so when portal 2 comes outt ill get it for PC. Valve is the only company that supports PC gaming these days so yeah...
anyway.
thats my rant.
see you on xbox live...

Booooo, Xbox can suck my balls! Get a PS3 bro. Unless your into Halo and what not. Only reason I'd get a 360 is fucking Gears man..... its like video game porn... or ecstasy.

Well, I agree with you, Valve is pretty much one of the only companies that respects PC gaming now. But Blizzard does as well, except they with Activision which kinda blows that whole thing over.

Well,

Sorry to see you go.

I never spent more than $400 on a PC and I play all of the latest games (benchmarked at LAN) at max settings.

Have fun with that X-Box but (no hate) it will fail on you. M$ track record with burnt out system is legendary.

Peace,
Megazell

P.S. - There are 612 companies that actively support PC gaming across the globe. Valve/STEAM have more of a presence due to their commercial success and marketing but there are a lot of awesome companies out there. With over 9,345,213,886 free games on the PC (non flash, non broweser based) and over 210 retail games going freeware this year alone like 'Company Of Heroes', 'Lord Of The Rings: Online', 'F.E.A.R 2' and others...I ain't going nowhere!

A week or so ago. I'll be getting a console as soon as the best models are under 200$, not worth it otherwise to me. More expensive games, worse controls (for me anyway), worse graphics, closed platform - no thanks. Not to mention I'd have to get an HDTV for this. 150 bucks for Natal, ~180 for Move if you want those, actually in the long run it's more expensive to be a console gamer.

Hope that choice works out for you and you're happy with it - that's all that matters at the end of the day :)

I've been thinking of buying a PS3 in the coming months, basically because of the same reason.
I would have to upgrade my graphics card and if you really want a decent one, you're spending the same amount as a PS3.
Offcouse you're forced to buy the games, which cost more then PC games.

Well, that's not 100% true.

For those that are interested and willing to put in the leg work (surfing the web) there are many methods of getting recent to new video cards on the affordable side.

You have bank reward programs for those that have bank accounts that offer you discounts and/or free gifts like video cards...if you wish.

You have rebate programs that give you up to 75% off on computer parts.

Then you have computer shows that sell you the same videos cards going for $400+ dollars down to $75 to $120.

As you noted - with services like Gog.com, Steam and bargain bins in stores like 'Staples', 'Target' and 'BJ' you can get recent games for as low as $5.00 to $9.99.

Anyone who goes into consoles must understand that THEY will be spending more money for their games, peripherals and services, period. Unless they getting everything using the 5 finger discount.

Sorry for the double post but I am not sure if I posted up my current main PC gaming rig. I bought this awhile back in late 09.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720
MB: MSI DKA790GX
RAM: Kingston HyperX 4GB
Videocard: HIS Radeon 4870 512MB
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 500 Black x 4
PSU: Rosewill RP550V2-S-SL
Case: Antec Skeleton PC Case
OS: Windows XP Professional SP 3 (Gamer Edits) and Ubuntu 9.10 (Gamer Edits)

NO DVD Drive, NO CD-ROM - I do everything via USB or download.

Total cost after rebates and coupons: $188.93

Now personally, I am not updating my rig until 2013....That's just the way I am.

If I wanted to I could get a more modern video card like Two Radeon HD 5830 for $180 with 5 free games in the bundle...I just won't because I'm a cheap ass motherfucker ;)

There's ofcourse a difference between the currencies we use, but still.

That's cool. I don't knock anyone that spends what they want on their rig. When I hear/see ppl saying that they MUST or YOU CAN'T...that's when I post up my stuff.

I am real penny pincher. Many ppl (friends and family) thought that the money money I would make the that less penny pinching I would do...it's been quite the opposite.

That rig I posted also came with 5 free games: Jericho, F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin, Empire Total War, Men of War:Red Tide and Sims 3.

I played the first 2 and sold the rest. I donated the first two after I end them.

The beauty of PC is that you can do just about anything with just a little forethought and elbow grease!

It's very simple first - You find the parts you want. I use 3 methods:

1) Online

www.pricewatch.com <- They usually have the cheapest price

2) Offline Stores

Do a search in your local paper (or online papers) for computer stores going out of business or having mega stales.

3) Computer Shows.

NOW - Contact the manufacturer either by phone or email and look for a newsletter or ask about their rebate/coupon program. All companies have them.

Print or cut them out.

Finally if you have a bank/debit card sign up for their reward program - For example Citibank has www.thankyou.com - Check out local bank.

As you purchase ANYTHING you collect points. They have cashback programs for purchase especially technology...You can also use their online/offline catalogs that also have coupons on the tech you need.

----It's a lot of work when you first do it but I've been doing this for YEARS...so in less than 30 minutes I take a PC that is worth $1,500 and bring it down to under $400 or less.

BTW - If you hit a site that spams you or does pop-ups - you're doing it wrong. These companies want you to use their things without a hassle...they get a tax break too :)

On top of this my debit card will give me $10 cash back on this purchase.

So I get...

BIOSTAR G31D-M7 LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

MSI N94GT-MD512 GeForce 9400 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Why would anyone buy a bad video card on purpose?

Musicworld1 has been saying short and un-detailed things, so you could be right.
About the 9400GT, that really is a very low end card ... you won't be able to run anything in the near future on high. Currently, with XP 32-bit or so, it'll most likely still run smooth enough.

I just built a complete PC with that card and mobo for less than 30 dollars. The system will be for a cousin she is 12 and will need it for school come September. I installed 50 games on there and they all ran fine on max settings.

Mind you I don't mess with retail games so you may be right but in the long term this PC will do movies, music and games for the selected target :)

Monitor: Acer AcerView F51 - 15" - Free after rebate - Was $20
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6600 Processor - 3.06GHz - $22 - May switch this out for another I have.
Motherboard: BIOSTAR G31D-M7 - $1.99
Video: GeForce 9400 GT 512MB - $1.99
Memory: 2 GB - Free had them already
Hard Drive: WD Caviar Blue 500 GB - Free with ThankYou Rewards
Operating System: Windows XP SP 3 and Linux Unbuntu with Wine - Free
Office Software: Openoffice 3.2 - Free

Total cost - $27.23

Now if she wants to upgrade from there on out as she learns more about PC gaming/computing then she will have a good head start.

PS - Forgot to mention the cash back was $15 not $10.

would that be considered spam? or just...."stupidity"

both!!

Pretty easy actually. For the online stuff I use www.Searchbots.net - It's already pre-programmed to look for certain things. This is how I find my 'free and legal PC games' and how I find deals on computer parts.

The other tactic I use are computer shows, newspapers and 'craiglist' (also done by Searchbot). I look for 'going out of business' sales. With computer shows I haggle and trade. I picked up that CPU from a store that was going out of business.

I also make it an issue to never pay full price for items that I consider to be a 'want.'

I'm not trying to start a flame war but the hate on the Xbox 360 here is terrible. Sure the PS3 has a lower fail rate (It's lower than the 360's, but still high) but it will fail on you as well. My Xbox 360 20 GB Pro Edition just recently RRoD on me, but I "fixed" it 10 minutes later and it worked for another week. My cousin had his ps3 for a much shorter time period than I had my 360 but his still failed before mine (YLOD). Even though the fail rate of the Xbox 360 is high, it has the best warranty in the business, HANDS DOWN. Nothing competes with it. My cousin had to pay $150 to trade his dead PS3 for a refurb. The only reason I couldn't send in my 360 is because me, being as stupid as I am, forgot the LIVE ID and password for the account I used when I first got the 360. I had switched accounts and completely forgot about the old one. So for security reasons, I couldn't get my account info from MS. But don't assume me as a fanboy, I love the PS3, 360 and Wii equally, they all have their cons and pros, but to talk down on one and praise the other like this is just a terrible fanboy thing to do. Oh and btw, the new 360's have had red lights on the power bricks, it's a simple fix, you unplug it and plug it back in and the red light is gone. The new 360's are superior to the old in many ways.

^ No need to get emotional about your console.

In the end the OP can do what he likes but PC gaming is cheaper, PC parts/builds are more affordable and last longer. That's not an opinion it's fact. I don't have to pay anything to get coverage for my part for 2 to 3 years.

Consoles. You pay more. You will get less. Always.

Are you stealing your parts? To make a gaming computer it'll cost $400 for a minimal computer, then if you want to run a high-end game like let's say Just Cause 2... You'll need to spend near $1000, and parts run up quickly. I live in Iowa so those parts are cheep here. (Iowa is one of the most inexpensive states in the US)

Console, you buy it once, if you take care of it you'll never have problems. I have a 2007 360, and it doesn't even overheat. Games cost the same, unless you're going through steam and you MIGHT have some good discounts. But that's Steam.

Considering that you can buy all the consoles for the price it costs to make a descent gaming computer doesn't say much. Yeah maybe if you don't pay for games and you only pay free games, but that's not everyone, that's you.

Not sure if you lying or playing some internet game. You can check my links and hit the guides that I make on the net. I get all of my parts legally and on the cheap. PC has always been cheap. If you pick up an issue of PCGamer they have guides and guidelines every month on how to build machines with NAMEBRAND parts for less. That's not including reward programs from banks and manufacture rebates.

NYCC just ran here in NYC and in the LAN arcade we had ppl that spent $400 to $800 on their rigs getting higher benchmark scores then those that spent $2k or more on their rigs.

The games I highlight are freeware but you can also get PC retail games for free using the above stated programs and rewards. Have fun on your consoles but don't come spreading lies about parts being expensive this is not 1992.

For example Citibank gave away free copies of L4D and L4D II (they also had a console version too but it was only for 1 game) for thankyou reward members (5000+ or more) and new card opener here in NYC.

$4-800 still could buy all the systems for the max price, yes you can get free games, but in some cases it's not completely legal or secure.

But then again you can get a Free IPOD touch, by clicking an add.

And yes you can get anything discounted, not just computer stuff, I Bought a motorcycle for $50, completely legal, and sold it for $6400, after changing the fuel line.

In this day and age - Only the elderly and complete morons would be clicking those ads for free games and get ripped off and/or viruses on their rig.

You have services like STEAM, SOE (Sony Online Entertainment), GOG, MTX, Windows LIVE that are giving you and others WITH NO STRINGS attached.

You even have TV commercials for games like Lord Of The Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online and other stuff...

Freeware is a choice. For some like me, it's the only choice because NO GAME COMPANY is getting my money. Period. But computer gamer have a choice in OS they pick - One that is retail or others that are free or legal. They also have a choice in games mainstream retail, indie retail or freeware. Choices that are not available elsewhere.

Yeah on the bike thing - I once got a bike for free through Craiglist. A 1957 Schwinn Hornet. Restore it (new seat) and while riding it during a marathon with my kids a fellow biker made me a offer I could not refuse...I had to take a ride with a friend home :)
